Remembering your “why” for exercise

How do you define your “why” for wanting to exercise?
For me, exercise is what keeps me energised. Sweating and releasing endorphins is the most natural way to boost energy. It instantly lifts my mood and helps me feel balanced.

I also see exercise as a form of moving meditation. In a class like barre, you must be completely present and focused on form, which provides a genuine mental break from the rest of your day.

And of course—it’s fun! The music, the energy in the room, and the warm, welcoming environment at BE make every class uplifting. Over time, clients become friends, and it’s so motivating to see familiar faces and push each other to work hard together.

How do you get motivated to begin?
I always keep my goals in mind—whether that’s getting stronger, feeling healthier, or simply staying active. Having a clear “why” makes it easier to get started.

I also don’t give myself the option not to go. Even on days when I’m tired or not feeling it, I remind myself that I’ll always feel better afterwards.

And I’ve learned to accept that our energy and mood are different every day. Some days you’re at 100%, other days you’re not—but any kind of movement is better than nothing. Just showing up is a win.

What advice can you offer to help people maintain a routine?
At first, it might feel forced, but once you establish the habi,t you’ll be so grateful you stuck with it.

I always recommend treating workouts like a meeting—something you don’t cancel unless it’s a real emergency.

Convenience also matters. Choose a time and location that works for you so there’s less temptation to skip.

And if possible, find a workout buddy. Having someone to hold you accountable makes a huge difference.

Can you share some tips around beginning small and staying motivated?
Start realistically. If you’re new to exercise, jumping into several back-to-back days might feel overwhelming. Instead, build gradually and let your routine grow with you.

Avoid comparing yourself to others—everyone is on their own journey, and progress looks different for each person.

Finally, choose something you actually enjoy. If you don’t know what that is yet, experiment and try new things. When you find the type of movement that feels fun, you’ll naturally want to keep coming back.
